C.P. Handler, LCSW
For CP, it’s the human within the therapist that creates the space for healing. After years inside jails, schools, clinics, and treatment centers, she brings a rare, unflinching compassion to the children and families the system too often overlooks.

The human within the therapist
CP is a client-centered, humanistic therapist who believes it’s the human within the therapist that creates the space for recovery and self-actualization. Her holistic approach was born out of a deep appreciation for the mind–body connection — and a discovery, early in her career, that trauma and mental-health struggles do not discriminate.
Across juvenile and adult jails, methadone clinics, homes and schools, residential treatment, foster care, and private practice — and even Homeland Security — CP has spent her career meeting people at their hardest moments. Today she also serves the South Florida jail system as a crisis interventionist, working with inmates in acute psychiatric crisis.
Her six years providing therapy inside state and county juvenile detention became the foundation for The Light Within the Walls — an unflinching, deeply human memoir about the children behind the labels, and the difference one trusted adult can make.
